In Persia, the learned Magi gazed up at the night sky and marveled at this heavenly wonder.
Both Astronomy and Astrology were studied and highly regarded by these wise men. In case you are wondering, yes, these are the same educated and spiritually awakened people who helped to create the story of the Three Wise Men in the New Testament.
In Egypt, physical life for the common person was interwoven with the spiritual world. One could not exist without the other. A belief in an afterlife was held sacred by these ancient Egyptians. The Sphinx and the Pyramids are testaments to their spirituality.
In Judea (now modern day Israel), during the time of the Master Teacher Jesus, pious Jews would have observed their religion along with esoteric mysticism. This became the Kabala that eventually was set down in several ancient and medieval books. Two of the most influential of these are the Zohar and the Zepher Yezirah.
In ancient China, the spiritual side of life was special and incorporated into everyday life. Even today some of the old ways are still apparent there.
The spiritual nature of life for our ancestors also involved the psychic world. Visions, precognition, intuition and influences by other worldly beings existed. Oracles, seers and shamans were venerated by these societies.
In our modern day world with its' pressures and technological materialism, a lack of spirituality exists for many people. We should strive to embrace our spiritual and psychic nature, much the same as our ancestors did in the Ancient World. Spiritual enlightenment and psychic awakening should be the goal for our modern society. We should allow the old ways, the ancient wisdom, to become part of our hectic lives.
